Accommodations and Travel

As one of North America's oldest and most picturesque seaports, Halifax is rich with history, culture, and natural beauty. Halifax is the capital and commercial centre of Nova Scotia, one of the four provinces of Atlantic Canada. Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU), the site of the Summer Program, is 10 minutes from downtown Halifax, on a park-like campus overlooking the Halifax Harbour and Bedford Basin. On-site fitness facilities are available to program participants.

Accommodations

To reserve on-site accommodations at Mount Saint Vincent University, send an email to reservations@msvu.ca

Rates are around $40 CAD per night (linens included), for a private, single room. Most rooms are in apartment-style settings with private, shared baths. Rooms are available on a first-come, first-reserved basis.

Off-Site Accommodations

Various off-site accommodations are available within a short drive from the program site. For more information about Hotels, Inns and Bed & Breakfast lodging in the Halifax and Bedford areas, see www.halifaxinfo.com

Travel

Halifax is a direct flight from the connecting hubs of Boston, Newark, New York (JFK), Detroit, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, and London. Passports are required for international travel.

Implemented on January 23, 2007, anyone traveling by air between Canada and the United States, including American citizens, is required to hold a valid passport (unless traveling with a U.S. Permanent Resident Card, asylee or refugee document, Merchant Mariner's Document, or NEXUS Air Card). See this page for more information.

The Halifax International Airport is a 25-minute cab ride from Mount Saint Vincent University, the program site. Sunshine Share-a-Cab provides a reasonably priced option and can be reserved by calling 1-800-565-8669 in North America, or 902-429-5555, if calling internationally.

Local Transportation

Car rental is generally unnecessary for those staying on-site. Parking at MSVU is included with on-site accommodations, and day passes are available for anyone traveling locally.

“In one week, the practices and workshops at the Authentic Leadership Program taught me more about my communication style than I'd learned from years of personality profiles and career coaches. To describe my Shambhala experience as transformative would be an understatement: I feel revolutionized.”
