Summer Institute
June 22-28, 2008
Halifax, Nova Scotia
with Barbara Bash, Sarita Chawla, Michael Chender, Steve Clorfeine, Chris Corrigan, James Flaherty, Jerry Granelli, Chris Grant, LeAnne Grillo, Lanny Harrison, Arawana Hayashi, Tom Hurley, Adam Kahane, Myrna Lewis, Toke Møller, Monica Nissén, Wendy Palmer, Ruben Perczek, Susan Skjei, Sera Thompson, Bill Torbert, Margaret Wheatley, Bob Wing & 250 other leaders and innovators who are transforming the way organizations and communities are creating value and creating their future.
Each June the Authentic Leadership Summer Institute brings together people and practices at the leading edge of organizational and social innovation. Here you will gain the practical skills and understanding needed to be more effective in the midst of high complexity, high pressure, and high stakes. Your guides will be internationally recognized and respected leaders working at the edge of emerging new fields.
This five-day institute will take you on an integrated journey of deep learning and lasting impact. You will leave with new insights and awareness, strategic relationships, and the tools and practices needed to shift yourself and your organization into more robust levels of integration, collaboration, and performance.
How it works
Customize your learning by selecting one of ten skill-building modules. Click here to peruse the module list. Your module meets for a total of 15 hours over five days. You will also have a chance to visit one other module at the end of the week.
Each morning begins with a 45-minute session of mindfulness meditation, which sets the tone for the day. Meditation is a rigorous exercise in recognizing habitual thinking and response, and clearing the way for fresh insight and authentic communication.
Two or more creative process sessions engage the intelligence of the body and the senses, while freeing up creativity. The arts are also woven throughout the five-day schedule.
Keynotes and plenary sessions inject big-picture thinking and tap into the collective experience and intelligence of the program community. These sessions are planned and announced during the months preceding the Summer Institute.
Meal breaks and evenings are a time for conversation, reflection, and celebration. Conversation areas are available indoors and outside on the university patios and grounds. Wooded walking trails crisscross the university campus, and the on-site fitness center is open throughout the day. For the mid-program open evening, you have the option of exploring historic Halifax or joining a coastal kayak and barbecue outing. The evening schedule also includes a dance featuring Nova Scotian talent, a cash bar on most evenings, and a closing banquet.
To reinforce and sustain your learning back home, consider the coaching option.
