Peter Senge has made outstanding contributions to our ability to improve our world. He did not, however, invent the term "organizational learning." Chris Argyris and Don Schön published their book "Organizational Learning" in 1978 (as well as a rewritten version, "Organizational Learning II," in 1996). Peter drew explicitly on their work in developing his "learning organizations" approach. Chris and Don included an appendix in the 1978 book reviewing earlier literature on organizational learning. The idea has a rich history.
